What are Self Service Ad Tags? (Enterprise Partners Only)

Self service ad tags allow Enterprise Publishers to utilize your own ad Servers. The Bolt Video Player will call your ad server and will play the ad creative returned. If you have ad backfill activated, our ad servers will be called if you ad server encounters an error or doesn’t have ad inventory. Currently, self service ad tags only support linear ads. There are 3 different types of self service ad tags: default ad tags, website specific ad tags and video specific ad tags; each type is explained further below.

Default Ad Tags:

Default ad tags are the “fallback” ad tags for your account. These ad tags will be called if no website or video specific ad tags are present. You can configure your default ad tags by following these steps:
  • Log in to your Playwire account
  • Click “Account Settings” from the account dropdown
  • Click on the tab labeled “Advertising”
  • Enter your ad tags in the Default Self-Service Tags area

Website Specific Ad Tags:

Website specific ad tags allow you to use different ad tags for different websites. For example, if you have 2 websites utilizing the Bolt Video Player, one website can be setup to use different ad tags then the other. You can configure your website specific ad tags by following these steps:
  • Log in to your Playwire account
  • Click “Account Settings” from the account dropdown
  • In the Websites section, you will see the websites associated with your account, click on the website name you want to enter ad tags for
  • Click the tab labeled “Edit Website”
  • Enter your ad tags in the Advanced Settings area

Video Specific Ad Tags:

Video specific ad tags allow you to use different ad tags for different individual videos. For example, if you embed the Bolt Video Player in 2 different spots on one webpage, you can run different advertising on each video. You can configure your video specific ad tags by following these steps:
  • Log in to your Playwire account
  • Click “Manage Videos” from the top nav, or under videos in the left nav
  • Click on the video you would like to set up video specific ad tags for
  • Click the tab labeled “Edit”
  • Enter your ad tags in the Video Specific Ad Tags area

Testing Ad Tags:

For default, website specific and video specific ad tags, you can enter a different ad tag for desktop and mobile devices.
  • Click the “Preview” to test your Ad Tag is loading correctly
  • Click “Save Changes” when you are finished
HTTP and Server Types
By default, the ad tag preview tool uses the https protocol. If your ad tag starts with http, click the “Test on HTTP” button. Also, if your ad tag is DFP/Google AdSense/Adx, make sure to select it from the Ad Server Type dropdown.
