Overview

Implementing Playwires’ display and video advertising is a simple process. We will walk through installing ad units within the WordPress framework below.

Staging Environment and Backup
We strongly recommend creating a staging site and backing up your current WordPress install before making any changes. Your hosting provider will usually offer a staging environment and backup solutions. You can also refer to this article to read more about backup plugins.

Implementing Head Scripts

We require our scripts to be included in the <head> of the document – they cannot be in the <body> of the document
  • After receiving the on-boarding tags, copy the (2) scripts from the demo page
  • Log into the WordPress backend
  • Click Appearance Menu from the left nav
  • Click Editor from the sub-navigation
  • Find your Theme Header file on the right (usually header.php)
  • Paste our scripts in between the opening and closing <head> tags
Use Caution
Editing the PHP file can easily break your site. Make sure to back up and test properly.

Leaderboard Units

  • After receiving the on-boarding tags, copy the (2) leaderboard divs from the demo page
  • Log into the WordPress backend
  • Click Appearance Menu from the left nav
  • Click Editor from the sub-navigation
  • Find the file that outputs your posts or pages on the right (usually loop-single.php)
  • Paste the leaderboard placeholder divs in the template
Posts/Page
Locating which theme files render each layout may be tricky. Refer to your theme’s documentation to locate which file to edit. Editing the PHP file can easily break your site – back up and test properly.

Medium Rectangle Units

  • After receiving the on-boarding tags, copy the (2) leaderboard divs from the demo page
  • Log into the WordPress backend
  • Click Appearance Menu from the left nav
  • Click Widgets from the sub-navigation
  • Drag and drop the Custom HTML widgets into your sidebars
  • Paste the medium rectangle placeholder divs in each widget

Video Embeds

If your WordPress install is version 5.0 or higher (Gutenberg), you will have to install the Classic Editor in order to install inline JavaScript
  • Edit your post or page
  • Use Text mode, not Visual Mode by clicking the Text tab at the top of the Editor
  • Paste the embed script where you would like the video to appear on the page
